How do you qualify for the Mastercard scholarship at Makerere University?

To qualify for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at Makerere University, applicants must belong to one of the following categories:

    • Ugandan Nationals
    • Refugees
    • Students with Disabilities
    • Internally Displaced Young People
    • International Students from Sub-Saharan Africa

In addition, applicants:

    • Must have applied for admission to Makerere University’s main campus.

    • Must have completed undergraduate education in an African country.

    • Must be experiencing financial hardship, making it difficult to pursue higher education without support.

    • Must not hold any other scholarships or funding.

    • Must not be pursuing or have completed any Master’s degree studies.

    • Must demonstrate leadership potential and a strong record of community service or civic engagement.

    • Must not be over 35 years of age at the time of the application deadline.

    • For Refugees and Students with Disabilities, the age limit is 40 years.

    • Must hold a Refugee Identity Card or Family Attestation.

    • Must have applied for one of the priority degree programs under the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program.
