Mastercard Foundation Scholarships for Master Programme at Makerere University

You can now apply for the Mastercard Foundation Scholarship Program at Makerere University.

The purpose of this scholarship is to promote inclusive university education and help over 1,000 talented young Africans make a positive impact in their communities.

The scholarship supports students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds in Sub-Saharan Africa to study for undergraduate and master’s degrees at Makerere University’s main campus.

It covers all costs of your education.

What are the benefits of the scholarship?

Selected scholars will receive a holistic support package.

The scholarship covers:

• Full Tuition and Functional Fees: Complete coverage of your academic costs.
• Laptops, Books, and Learning Materials: You will be provided with essential educational resources.
• Accommodation, Bedding, and Meals: On-campus housing with meals included.
• Medical Insurance: You will get full health coverage during your studies.
• Monthly Stipend: There is also a financial allowance for your expenses.
• Transport Costs: Support for travel to and from home.

How do you qualify for the Mastercard scholarship at Makerere University?

To qualify for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at Makerere University, applicants must belong to one of the following categories:

• • Ugandan Nationals
  • Refugees
  • Students with Disabilities
  • Internally Displaced Young People
  • International Students from Sub-Saharan Africa

In addition, applicants:

1. • Must have applied for admission to Makerere University’s main campus.

   • Must have completed undergraduate education in an African country.

   • Must be experiencing financial hardship, making it difficult to pursue higher education without support.

   • Must not hold any other scholarships or funding.

   • Must not be pursuing or have completed any Master’s degree studies.

   • Must demonstrate leadership potential and a strong record of community service or civic engagement.

   • Must not be over 35 years of age at the time of the application deadline.

   • For Refugees and Students with Disabilities, the age limit is 40 years.

   • Must hold a Refugee Identity Card or Family Attestation.

   • Must have applied for one of the priority degree programs under the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program.

How to apply

To submit your application:

1. • Make sure that you have applied for a Master’s program at Makerere University’s main campus for the academic year.

   • Then, go to the Mastercard Foundation Scholarship Program webpage or Makerere University’s and fill out the scholarship application form.

Note that late submissions will not be considered, so apply early.
